FoodFacts has been selected by Svensk Dagligvaruhandel (The Swedish Food Retailers Federation) to deliver climate scores for the entire food assortment of the grocery retail sector. The project is unique in its kind and creates better conditions for food retailers to drive a transition towards a lower climate footprint through detailed data analysis at product level.
FoodFacts has signed an agreement with Svensk Dagligvaruhandel for the comprehensive delivery of generic climate scores (generiska klimattal). Svensk Dagligvaruhandel is the industry organization for grocery retailers in Sweden with members including Axfood, Coop Sverige, ICA Sverige, Lidl Sverige, and Livsmedelshandlarna. For several years, the organization has made dedicated investments to address the global climate challenges that the industry is facing by developing an industry-wide methodology for calculating climate scores for food. Now, through the partnership with FoodFacts, this methodology will be applied across the entire food assortment of all member companies within Svensk Dagligvaruhandel.
- We are incredibly proud to have earned this trust and to work with clients who share our vision that better information about food products can make a difference, says Alexandra Ferreira, CEO of FoodFacts. The food system accounts for up to a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, and all food industry players must have a clear understanding of what drives emissions in their assortment.
FoodFacts’ platform analyzes each product's unique composition and links the product profile to climate databases, internationally recognized data sources, and publicly available frameworks to calculate a generic climate footprint for each product.
The members of Svensk Dagligvaruhandel will be able to use the climate scores as a tool in their sustainability efforts and drive their respective sustainability strategies.
- After a thorough selection process, FoodFacts was chosen as the partner for this project, based on their deep understanding of product data, sustainability data, and proven tech capabilities. We look forward to a collaboration that provides us with even more opportunities to strengthen our sustainability efforts, says Jenny Hagberg, Head of Sustainability at Svensk Dagligvaruhandel.
This is an important step for FoodFacts development, continuing its mission to empower the food industry with data and tools to make food products more sustainable and healthy. The new platform FoodFacts Hub will integrate the carbon footprints calculated according to the new methodology, alongside other data points, and offer interactive functionalities to support data-driven decisions on food products.
- With this partnership and our existing project with Coop for the sustainability declaration, we are supporting the Swedish food industry with two of the most comprehensive and ambitious sustainability calculations for food. This is a step towards offering all producers and retailers accessible analytics tools with health and sustainability indicators for their entire product range, says Alexandra Ferreira.
